Big Tex and Corny Dogs

Fall is finally here and you know what that means?

The State Fair of Texas!

Coming from a small-er town in east Texas, the State Fair has always been a big deal to me. Maybe it's because I had always heard about it growing up but never actually went until 4 years ago. I was in awe. Big Tex was BIG and they had fried everything and they could build these amazing rides and roller coasters all in one day and they folded up into a pick up truck. A pick up truck. How fun!

Well, yesterday was Grayson's turn. We took our son to the State Fair of Texas.

Big Tex was still Big
(Grace wouldn't even look in his direction)

and they still had fried everything and the roller coasters still fold up and fit in the back of a pick up truck. A PICK UP TRUCK! How can this be safe?

It is amazing how different everything was, yet still so very much the same. How could I ever have thought that a 23 lb little boy would see the fascination with a 456,786 foot tall giant wearing wranglers and a cowboy hat? He didn't. When do you think I will ever let said little boy eat anything remotely close to a chicken fried piece of bacon? I won't. And when, may I ask, will I ever feel comfortable letting my perfect, healthy, beautiful little man ride on one of those death contraptions? NEVER.

Don't get me wrong, he can still enjoy a corny dog from time to time

(Once a year at the State Fair), and even a nutty bar

(yeah....I know we were supposed to wait till like 2 or 3 to introduce peanuts....but his Daddy got carried away in all the excitement and just forgot). He can even run around in the aquarium and the lawn shoeless if he chooses.

I just don't ever, EVER want to think of him as one of those teenage hoodlums running around the fairgrounds being all dangerous and stuff and eating fried moon pies.

Grayson, I love you. Remember this when you ask me if you can go to the State Fair with your friends and I simply say, "No". Don't argue. I have my reasons.

And no, not every one's parents are letting them go. Call Grace and Lucas Peden.......I bet their Mom is not letting them go either.

Does that mean we shouldn't go? I haven't been since I was a kid either and we were thinking of going next week?
