Closer to Three

Grayson~

You. Amaze. Me.

Everyday is like a new chapter in your little storybook of life. Where will we go today? On a scavenger hunt to find your precious lost cow? Or maybe on a train ride through the countryside that is our living room....up and down the blanket mountains...away you go. "Look at me, Mama....so fast"!

This month makes you closer to three than two and that makes Mommy a little sad, but in a happy way. I'm so filled with pregnancy hormones and mixed emotions because I'm starting to realize that one day, very soon, I will have to share my love with a new baby....a love that once belonged to only you.

I know I'm capable of loving another child the same and just as much, but it still stings a bit to comprehend that I won't be able to drop everything I'm doing at every.single.second. to come running to you.

We are working very hard this month on sharing. At times it seems as though you will never fully get it. Everything is "Mine" right now.

You are such a "big" little boy these days....

carrying on conversation after conversation with whomever will listen....Mommy, Daddy, Bentley, your trains....etc.

You like to answer questions in depth, not just "yes" or "no".

Now, I know I'm your mother and it's my job to think so but oh my, is your mind ever a treasure-map to the universe's greatest secrets. Every day with you feels like a gift from the gods of inspiration.

You absolutely thrive outside and this rainy, cold weather isn't helping.

We finally had a couple of nice days last weekend and you were in your element, son. We had a birthday party to attend for our little friend, Travis, early Saturday. It was a dinosaur dig...so fun!

After all the digging you went straight out the back door to his little play ground filled with rocks and stayed for the rest of the party. No cake, pizza, or punch for you...no sir!

You had dump trucks to fill and bulldozers to empty. You threw a wall-eyed-toddler-fit when I said it was time to leave. In your eyes, there was nothing more important than filling those trucks up with rocks and dumping them out again!

We played outside again on Sunday and you were the happiest I've seen you in weeks! After attending another birthday party for our little friend, Luke, you decided that one of his birthday gifts must have actually been meant for you. A plastic dump truck with shovels, rakes, and a sand pail won over your little heart. After begging Mommy to let you play with it, I didn't hear another peep from you the whole party.....until the dreaded sugar crash.

So, what did Mommy do first thing Sunday morning?? She headed to Walmart to purchase your very own plastic dump truck. And that's what you did on Sunday, played outside till the cold front blew in with your little dump truck.

You love your trains, trucks, and trailers.

Such a boy's boy! But you still have a soft side that likes to cuddle with Mommy and Daddy on the couch.

At a little closer to three, these are your favorite things:

*Your favorite shows are Mickey Mouse Club House, Little Einsteins, and Chuggington.
*Breakfast food: waffles or raisin bran
*Lunch: anything on the go.....you are so busy, so a bite of peanut butter and jelly here and a handful of grapes there, and you are good.
*Dinner: pretty much anything Mommy cooks....you still love supsketti, pizza, and burritos and let's not forget "meat donuts".

When you were younger, you loved donut holes...so one day, while Mommy scarfed down a cheeseburger at Sonic, you asked me, "What's that?"....without hesitating I answered, "It's a meat donut, want some"? From then on, that's what we've call them...meat donuts. And I will have you know that the other day while stopping for a quick cherry limeade, you announced "Meat donut, peeeese Mommy" so when the lady on the speaker asked what she could get for us, I announced very matter-of-factly, "Yes, I'll have a meat donut with cheese and a route 44 cherry limeade, please".....after a couple of seconds she replied, "I'm sorry ma'am, a meat what???"

Mortified, I quickly answered back "a jr cheeseburger, please", like nothing was wrong.

You always keep me on my toes, sweet angel!

Your favorite books are anything to do with trucks or trains...especially Thomas the Train. Mommy has a big surprise planned for you this Friday, stay tuned!!

You speak like you are a teenager sometimes. "Grayson, it's time to clean up your toys and take a bath"......"Five more minutes, Momma", you say.

Ummmm, ok.

You love chewing gum and are very skilled at it. I usually give you a piece in the car (to keep you quiet) and the other day Daddy walks in from work and asks you what's in your mouth. "It's gum, daddy, see? I big boy, no swallow it, my tummy will hurt." Uh....I totally forgot I gave you that gum at lunch....you still had it at 5:30!!

You are wearing sz 6 diapers and 3T clothes. We just bought new shoes for spring, sz 8. I want to remember every little detail about your little life so that I never feel like I missed out on something....that's why I post all these random tidbits of information.

You know all your colors except for brown, gray, and black (they're tricky). And you know your numbers by looking at them. "Look Mommy, it's a five"! or "Mommy, there's a two".....so so so so smart! You can recite almost all of your books just by looking at the picture on the page.....how do you remember???? I asked you to read Mommy a story the other day and you grabbed my Parents magazine and said, "One wittle wadybug sitting alllllll a-wone......awong came a bweeeze and din she was home.....yayyyyyy!!!!"

We are still potty training, only when you feel it necessary, though. Last Monday, you were in the bath and hollered for me to come in there. "I need to poo poo, Mommy....get me out the bath". You sat on the big boy potty for twenty minutes and pooped the biggest poop I have ever seen....oh my gosh! I was SO proud, son!!
So very, very proud.

And then there was today. After finishing your first bowl of cereal, you very politely said, "More cereal please, Momma...with more milk in it. I wike to drink the milk".

Plain.As.Day.

Still in shock from your very informative sentence, I was pouring your second bowl of cereal when all of a sudden, the box slipped from my fingers and
Raisin Bran spilled all over the floor. You very calmly stated, "Don't worry Mommy, Beet Deet (Bentley) will get it, you didn't mean to, you sorry...it was an accident".

Speechless.

Before my eyes, you have grown into this amazing, smart, little dude. Mommy is so proud of your growing vocabulary and your ever growing heart.

I know there is so much more that I am forgetting, but I promise, as soon as I remember.....I will make a note of it!

All my love, big as the sky~

You probably remember when I went through that feeling of knowing very soon it wouldn't be just me and Grace anymore. I remember feeling guilty that I was taken time away from her and that it would never be the same. And it isn't. It is better. Better than I could have ever imagined and I know that same will be for you. Enjoy these last few months just the three of you and them when this new baby comes, you won't be able to remember what life was like without her/him. It may be a little bit more hectic sometimes but it is so amazing, your heart swells and you are able to love another sweet baby with the same amount of love as you do your first. I love you!
