They've All Been Cut

...every last one of them.

How Do You Cure a Headache???

With sweet pickles and iced tea, of course!

On Monday and Tuesday, my in-laws got a new roof installed. This meant that from 8:00a.m. to 9 p.m. (two days in a row) we would hear the lovely scraping of pitch forks on old shingles and the wondrous sound of a heavy duty staple gun above our heads.

That's 13 hours of non stop noise. A day.

I thought long and hard Sunday evening that maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't be so bad. I mean Grayson has slept through numerous thunderstorms, 2 tornado sirens, and one fire alarm.....what's a little hammerin' gonna do?

Well let me just tell ya.

Instead of 10 a.m., he wakes at 8 a.m., and from that moment on he was like a bull in a china closet. Go ahead and laugh it up!

I decided by 11:45 that I had had enough!

Crandall, take me away!!!

I packed a little over night bag and headed to Nana and Pawpaw's. Out in the country. W A Y O U T...where there are NO noises except for the occasional cricket.

I called my dad to let him know we were coming and to leave the back door unlocked (because that's what you do in the country) and he said, "Come on, I'll be waiting for ya!" "I'm just trimmin' trees and waterin' the grass". "I'll cook you some supper...Mama's out of town".

So, off we went. I just knew that Grayson would nap in the car and be ready to play when we got there.

No no....he had other plans.

Instead, he pointed out EVERY SINGLE big truck along the way, as well as the airplanes and water towers. For 1 hour and 15 minutes, he jibber jabbered and pointed.

When we pulled up, Pawpaw greeted us with open arms and big kisses. I took Grayson into his room and layed down on the bed with him and we both slept for two hours. When we woke up, it was time to eat!!

Pawpaw fixed us some fried chicken, pan fried corn, squash and potatoes. (and don't forget homemade sweet pickles and iced tea) Yumm-O, my dad can cook! Oh, and did I mention, sweet onions from his garden?? I'm not sure why I didn't take a picture of his garden, but it's nothing short of amazing! He has potatoes, tomatoes, green beans, jalapenos, zucchini, cabbage, corn, squash, banana peppers, and SWEET onions all in his garden. He could seriously sell some stuff to Sprouts and retire!

After dinner, it was time to play! Grayson ran all over the yard, up the rock wall

and down the slide,

through Nana's secret garden,

and around the wishing well.

He dumped out all the bird seed and threw the pebbles as hard as he could. He rode on his John Deer tractor from fence to fence, pretending he was a farmer. He stopped for 2.5 seconds to finish off Pawpaw's iced tea, then he was off on another adventure.

This my friends, is why we desperately need a back yard! He entertained himself for FOUR hours, just looking and running and jumping.

The day was finally ending.

The mosquitoes were coming out looking for their next victim and Pawpaw and Grayson were finishing off their "secret stash" of homemade ice cream.

It was time for Mommy and Grayson's bubble bath in Nana's big ol' soaking tub and then Mr. Grayson was off to bed.

Dad and I watched Seven Pounds with Will Smith and then turned in for the night.

S I G H.....we slept so peacefully.

The next morning, I couldn't change his diaper fast enough! He was ready to play outside.

Too busy for breakfast, or cuddling with Mama....no sir.....it was time to explore! I wasn't about to argue with him. It was another BEAUTIFUL day, so we would just have our breakfast on the back porch! Sliced strawberries, blueberries, scrambled eggs and cinnamon toast. Eating breakfast at a picnic table, soaking up the sun

.....It doesn't get any better.

Dear Grayson,

Mommy is a few days late, once again, wishing you a very happy 21 month birthday! I know you don't mind, but I really, really tried having this posted on Sunday, the 10th, your actual "day" of birth.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

But, I failed.

I'm not sure if it was the fact that it fell on Mother's Day this year and Mommy had to be up at 6 a.m. in order to be at work by 7:30 to serve the masses at The Cheesecake Factory (why families want to wait 2 hours to be seated and then another 40 minutes for scrambled eggs and a waffle are beyond me) after being up ALL night long with you not feeling well, OR if it had to do with the fact that I closed Friday night, fell sleep at 2 a.m. only to wake back up at 8 a.m. in order to be at work by 9 for some ridiculous meeting that very well could have been pre-shifted before our Sunday morning brunch.

Mommy is exhausted. I feel as though I am just going through the motions of being a Mommy and a wife and a daughter. I know it's because we still don't have a house (and I just found out today, that the one we wanted SO badly that we have been waiting to hear SOMETHING from since MARCH, got a better offer) and that is weighing in on the back of my mind.

It really was perfect for us. And that makes Mommy want to cry. But I don't....because I have you, and Daddy, and our family and our health and I know I should just praise God for everything I DO have, and I do....but I'm just so ready for us to live in our own home and for you to have a back yard to play in and for us to start trying to make you a baby sister or a baby brother.

Grayson, you make Mommy and Daddy so happy. You have become such a big boy, lately. You want to do EVERYTHING all by yourself. You want to eat EVERYTHING we eat (even if it's taco soup or tuna fish sandwiches....you'll at least try it).

You fell off the windowsill yesterday at Mimi's. Daddy was home because he has bronchitis and he and I ran to you so fast and scooped you up in our arms together. We were SO scared that you had broken a tooth.....there was SO much blood EVERYWHERE!! You looked like a little vampire.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
Thankfully, you did not break a tooth, only busted your little bottom lip. It was very sad. All you wanted was for Daddy to hold you and tell you everything was okay. That you were going to be just fine. He would fix it. And he did. He made you a juice smoothie and put it in a cup with a straw and you sat on his lap and watched Gabba Gabba and all was right with the world.

And at nap time, you wouldn't let Mommy leave your room, so I scooped you up and we layed down together in the big bed in each others arms and slept for 2 hours.

You have taught me so much, little man. You have taught me that when I'm scared or broken, all I need to do is let my Father hold me and He will fix it. He always does.

Our God is Awesome, Grayson. He will see us through anything and everything. We just have to let him hold us.

21 or Almost Two???

Sunday, Grayson turned 21... months. Which means he's legally allowed to drink.... out of a cup. We're nearing year two of life, which means retiring the "months" for "years". I think. Actually, I'm having a hard time knowing what to say when people ask me how old he is...

A. Because I'm losing track
B. Because it's embarrassing and lame to say "20 months, two weeks, three days and 16 hours... Oh! And twelve minutes."
C. Because there is probably some sort of etiquette that I am completely missing.
D. Because honestly, no one really cares unless they TOO have a child so they can quietly (or not so quietly) compare who is more advanced for their age, and either gloat or feel like crap about it.

Right? Right?

So, yes. My dude is 21, as of Sunday. But when can I drop the month thing and just round up? Perhaps it is time to say, "He'll be 2 in August?" or I suppose I could shrug nonchalantly and say, "Eh, almost 2. I think."

A friend of mine just can't let go of the "She just turned one" phrase. Even though her daughter turned one in March. We understand.....we were all there once. Don't sweat it, L. It's what we do. We are Moms and we never want our babies to grow up.

And this is where you, my lovely readers, come in:

A. When did you replace the "this-many-months" for the "this-many-years"?
B. How totally annoying is it when people are all, "Krystalynn is 35-months-old!"? (Or am I completely alone on this.)
C. Do you round up in age? Or do you just ignore people when they ask you?
D. When do "month birthdays" stop mattering? Am I lame to even announce that Gray turned 21...months?

So to answer my questions:

Yes......Grayson is still sleeping in till 9:30 or 10 every morning (it took us a couple of days of waking at 6:15 and mommy coming in the room and saying, "It's still night night....go back to sleep") but we are finally back in business. In bed by 9, up at 10 (I was afraid my days of sleeping in were over).

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

Yes.....he still likes to cuddle with his sippy cup of milk in the mornings while watching Gabba with Mommy.

And Yes, he is still napping.

HOWEVER, I have recently noticed that if he falls asleep in the car for even a minute, all naps are off! Boycotted. Nada. No Sir, don't-even-think-about-it-not-even-for-a-second!!

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

This is disturbing because each day this past week, I have driven to Frisco for something important....you know, like a play date or a 45 minute art class :)...and if he falls asleep in the car on the way back to my in-laws....I'm screwed!

So today, I kept him awake for the 45 minute drive singing multiple made up lines of "Oh McDonald" and "The Wheels on The Bus" and voila! He's in his crib....asleep (not bouncing up and down)!! Woo hoo!!!

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

He tried SO hard several times to close his little peepers...but I piped right in with "The windows on the bus go up and down, up and down, up and down".....all the while making his window go UP and DOWN. I guess it's kinda hard to fall asleep with the wind blowing in your face.

So, all in all, we are moved in and settled and trying to keep up with our normal routines.

Kev set up my computer, but it doesn't have a signal, so BOO! for that. I'm using my FIL's computer to blog and check emails but I haven't quite figured out how to upload pics from my camera. I'm sure it's pretty much the same as with my computer, but seriously??? His office has SO MANY GADGETS....I'm afraid I may plug something in to the wrong outlet and mess up everything!! (the pics on this post are all from his computer)

He tried to show me how to listen to I-tunes while checking my emails the other day, and I just smiled and said, "Uh huh" while nodding my head....like I got it.

I have NO IDEA how to listen to I-tunes or any tunes for that matter! I have to be shown several times before I truly understand something....like the coupons. Thanks Mel, hopefully I will purchase my 1st couple of tubes of toothpaste for free and be hooked like you!! :)

************************************************************************************
Grayson has adjusted well. He loves waking each morning to not only one doggie, but three! He has decided that each day when Pappi walks through the door from work, he must immediately drop his brief case and take Grayson outside to look at the ants, squirrels, and airplanes. He is loving his new fan club....Mimi, Pappi, and of course, cousin Caleb.
