Just back from a lovely four days in Galveston with my boys:

It was a beautiful beginning to our 12-week-summer-mommy-daddy-son-before-the-baby-comes time together.

This summer is all about Grayson....

rain or shine...in sickness and in health....because we (I) need it.

This trip was very important to me.

I needed to get away from it all.....bills, work, t.v....and spend some quality time with my boys before this little girl comes.

Grayson will be THREE in 2 1/2 months....where in the world did the time go?

He is budding into this incredible little boy who speaks his mind and does everything himself. "Me do it, Mommy" is something I hear at least 100 times a day.

I needed this.

I needed to hold Grayson's hand in the ticket line and ride the Kemah Boardwalk train

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
fifteen times in a row, listening over and over as Grayson pointed out the boats in the harbor.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

"Look, Mommy! Anoder boat...so cool!"

I needed to watch as he made new friends while running around the splash zone for four hours straight.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
To see him taste his very first cherry Icee

To hear him ask, "Where all da Nemo's-es?"....."They hungry Mamma, I feed dem".

Watching him never tire of running through the water....even at 9 p.m.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

Only stopping for a quick drink

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
and a back scratch

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
and, of course, icecream.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

Always willing to share

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
and take in every.single.moment.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

I needed to sweat under the blazing sun......to regret taking him to NASA.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
(We should have known better. Now we do.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
Almost 3 year olds (and their Daddys)

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
don't give a hoot about NASA unless they are aloud to fly the rocket ships).

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

I needed to watch him do somersaults in the sand and watch

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
as the seagulls tried to attack him. I needed to hear him call the birds "mine mines" and laugh out loud as they tried to eat his pizza flavored goldfish.

I needed to chase him screaming down the beaches of Galveston, half-crying, clutching my belly, sprinting as fast as I could until I found him hiding behind the farthest lifeguard tower.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
And then I needed to lecture him on why we don't run away from pregnant mommies with boatloads of stuff in their hands. I needed him to cry just like I needed to kiss him on the face and tell him "it's okay. I love you. Let's be friends again.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
Follow me..."

I needed to tell him I loved him a hundred thousand times and listen to him make up his very own lullabies for the baby.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

"Baby sissy in you tummy I sing song?"

I needed to hear him ask why he doesn't have a baby in his tummy, too.

"Di you know that, Mommy? I not have baby in my belly."

I needed to draw Saturn and the number 5 for him and read The Noah's Ark book a thousand times and remind him to wash his hands. I needed to applaud him for thanking the waitress for bringing more chips and green dip

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
and I needed to scold him for stealing his very first toy from the souvenir shop.

I needed to watch him ride the zebra on the carousel.....

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
"all myself, Mommy....you sit on reindeer over der"

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

I needed him to pick out 3 icecream flavors,

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
one for each of us, because it's always so hard to choose just one.

I needed to spoon him in the hotel room overlooking the sea, his little hands pulling my arm over his waist, playing with my fingers.

view from our room.

All of this because I needed to watch him grow-up.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
Become my big boy.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
A big brother. I needed to watch him every second to make sure I didn't miss something. I needed to memorize the way he walked, played, fell asleep.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
The way his hands felt in mine, his sandy feet against my knees. The special bond that only he and his Daddy share...

so very different from his Mommy bond. Two peas they are.

So that when he's old enough to understand, I'll be able to tell him about the 3 months before his sister came and how we spent it just the three of us...

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
And how special and beautiful it was... most of the time.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing
How special and beautiful it always is.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

I feel ready, now. For him to grow up....just a little, though...not too much and not too fast.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

May, June, and July will be about Grayson so that August can be about her...

28 weeks and counting....

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

August. I can't believe how soon it's going to be August.
